Tunghai University Successfully Reverses Enrollment Rate to 99.9% New Dormitory Will Soon Complete to Provide High-Quality Accommodation for Students

Despite the challenges of declining birthrate and the difficulty in private university enrollments, Tunghai University has achieved an extraordinary enrollment rate of 99.9%, with only three vacancies in the Music Department. Tunghai University Vice President for Student Affairs, Prof. Feng-Di Lung, stated that despite the challenge, Tunghai remains optimistic about its future development. The University is constructing new student dormitories and introducing long-stay dormitory programs to provide students with a secure and high-quality accommodation environment.

For four consecutive years Tunghai University has been ranked first among private universities in Taiwan in the Times Higher Education World University Impact Rankings. This year, Tunghai has defied the odds by achieving an enrollment rate of 99.9%, admitted 3,034 new students. Dean of Academic Affairs Prof. Ding-Ya Yang, explained that the university faced an inferior enrollment in the previous year. Through collaboration of faculty from various departments, curriculum was revamped to develop departmental features and maintain close relationships with high schools. The university has also received recognition for its AI Spotlight Program, in collaboration with the University AI Center. Additionally, Tunghai University has achieved global recognition by consistently ranking between 101 and 200 in THE's Impact Ranking. In the 2023 THE Engineering Subject Ranking, the university has reached the sixth position in Taiwan, following national universities such as National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, and National Cheng Kung University. Tunghai has also been honored as the most favored private university by domestic enterprises, making it the leading private university in the central and southern Taiwan.

Tunghai University Vice President for Student Affairs, Feng-Di Lung, emphasized that facing the challenges of a declining birthrate, admissions at private universities have become increasingly difficult. Tunghai University’s continued growth proves that the university has been recognized by the public for its efforts in promoting AI education, implementing interdisciplinary education in the liberal arts, fostering sustainable development, and students' good reputation in the industry.

 

Feng-Di Lung pointed out that the improvements in dormitories and the introduction of long-stay dormitories have attracted students to choose on-campus accommodations. To meet the more accommodation needs, the university has invested over a hundred million in constructing a brand-new dormitory building, expected to be completed in 2024. This will provide accommodation for 700 students. Feng-Di Lung emphasized that Tunghai University continues to prioritize students' rights and is devising more solutions for student accommodation choices.
