The issue of succession has become a thorny problem for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Over the past five years, Tunghai University’s EMBA program has addressed this through the introduction of a "Second-Generation Business Class." This initiative has highlighted the challenges of corporate succession but also revealed a growing demand for such programs. According to Director Hsu En-Te, more than ten pairs of first- and second-generation business leaders have enrolled in the EMBA program. Jiang Jin-Zhu, chairman of Senday Enterprise Co., Ltd., mentioned that his son went to Singapore at the age of 14 and later studied in Canada. Despite having earned a foreign degree, he still encouraged his son to enroll in the EMBA Second-Generation Business Class. This has led to greater consensus and alignment between father and son in their business operations.

This program offers innovative and practical courses that integrate international standards through a buffet-style learning module that spans across disciplines and industries. Dean Li noted that generational succession is inevitable, particularly for Taiwan’s many SMEs, where family succession poses significant challenges. The EMBA program not only offers a CEO class but also established a second-generation business class, providing precise management courses. Distinguished instructors, including TSMC Senior Vice President Lora Ho, AUO Chairman Peng Shuang-Lang, and Qisda Chairman Peter Chen, have been invited to guide these second-generation entrepreneurs, offering effective solutions for generational transition.

Jiang Jin-Zhu, Chairman of Senday Enterprise Co., Ltd., emphasized that while traditional management philosophies are rooted in early factory experiences, systematic educational courses in schools offer greater support for business leaders. Although his son has an overseas degree, he still needed to enhance his factory management expertise, which is why he joined the EMBA second-generation class. This also facilitated better communication and consensus in their business operations. Similarly, Jiang Rui-Qin, Chairman of YESTECH Engineering Co., Ltd., who comes from a traditional industry background, mentioned that her thinking was previously limited. After enrolling in the EMBA program, she not only strengthened her international perspective but also developed new strategic business thinking through economics courses. She encourages her daughter to further her studies to enhance their mutual understanding and strategy application in management.
Yang Yong-Tang, Chairman of Acter, stated that there is a generational gap of over 20 years between different generations. Rigorous business training is essential for mastering the art of business management, which includes finding suitable personnel, organizational succession, and company inheritance. After his child enrolled in the second-generation class, the peer encouragement and influence became a significant asset for their business management. Guo Yu-Min, Chairman of Mu Sheng Construction, also pointed out that succession issues need to be both anticipated and overcome. Schools serve as an excellent medium for both the incumbents and their successors. Both he and his son enrolled in the Tunghai EMBA program, where the diverse and cross-disciplinary courses of the CEO class and the second-generation class facilitate consensus, encourage listening, thorough discussions, joint learning, and mutual understanding and support.
