In commemoration of the 3rd level pandemic alert we went through during the year, the theme for the Christmas celebration at Tunghai University was ‘Safe and Peaceful 2021’. The campus life was coming back to normal towards the end of the year. The Christmas Eve mid-night services took place at 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm, with Messiah film made by the Tunghai Choir projected on the outer wall of the Luce Chapel in between the two services. There were Luce Chorus Christmas concert, an open concert of Ying-ying Shih, student club performances, and Christmas market before the exciting 100 Christmas bell rings at mid-night to wish everybody a Merry, safe and peaceful Christmas.

Christmas Choir

The 2021 Christmas Eve was a comfortable evening with clear sky. Thousands of visitors came into the Tunghai campus after sunset to enjoy the Christmas celebration events. Besides club performances, there were Christmas decorations all around the campus – the Light Avenue on the Mall, decoration art around the Music Department building, topic-design exhibition at the Industrial Design building, and the Messiah film made by the Tunghai Choir. For party-goers, there were Christmas market, DJ Dance Zone, Pop Music Zone, Love Song Zone, open Christmas Carol Concert, Street Magic performance, FALIDA Christmas Party, and Ying-ying Shih Open Concert to enjoy the Christmas mood.

Christmas Market

A series of Christmas celebration was carried after the Christmas lighting ceremony on December 7th, including the music concert of the Elementary Division of the Affiliated High School of Tunghai University, the Christmas Concert of the Luce Chorus, the Christmas Concert of the Tunghai University Oratorio, and joint parties organized by different departments. This year, the Christmas Eve falls on a Friday. There were more people from the university neighborhood coming into the campus join the festive celebration and more Christmas caroling on campus in the faculty residence area.

The iconic 99+1 Bell Ring count-down created an exciting climax and wound up the “Safe and Peaceful 2021” Christmas celebration. Tunghai alumni who were not able to attend the celebration in person joined the mid-night service through live broadcast online, bringing together the love and warmth of the Tunghai community.
