Through collaborating with five major hospitals, Tunghai University earned the Gold Award of the 2023 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Award. The 2023 Asia-Pacific and Taiwan Sustainable Action Awards were announced on July 21, 2023, being the "Innovative Medical System Alliance" formed by Tunghai University in partnership with five major hospitals was awarded the "SDG09 Gold Award". Professor Shao-Jen Weng, who serves as the Executive Director of the Alliance, pointed out that although being without a medical school, Tunghai’s AI technology has contributed to the collaboration in achieving over ten technological innovations. The collaborating hospitals including Taichung Veterans General Hospital, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital, Chang Bing Show Chwan Memorial Hospital, Tungs’ Taichung MetroHarbor Hospital and Taichung Armed Forces General Hospital. Weng emphasized that this is a significant breakthrough in medical management and a key factor for winning the award.
The 2023 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards, combined with exhibition and Summit forum, have a attracted over 50 public and private sector organizations with over 180,000 attendees, including companies, universities, and government agencies from Taiwan, Japan, Korea, and other Asia-Pacific countries. The Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards Committee hopes to stimulate cross-industry alliances in Taiwan and enhance international competitiveness.

President Chang pointed out that the alliance is dedicated to developing AI technology to assist doctors in problem-solving and enhance the value of healthcare innovation services. Furthermore, through such collaboration, students at Tunghai can keep up with the trends in AI technology, strengthen their technical capabilities and lay a solid foundation for their future career developments.

In 2021, the alliance implemented the "Research and Development of a Prototype of AI-Assisted Health Care Robot" project, facilitating cooperation between Taiwan and the Czech Republic in eHealth. In 2023, Professor Shao-Jen Weng led professors from National Chung Cheng University, National Chin-Yi University of Technology, and National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, to the Czech Republic for international exchanges and collaborations. Through close cooperation between the two countries, new market opportunities were created for Taiwan's eHealth equipment and software systems.
